Astacio acquired
Last weekend, representatives of the Nationals met with pitcher Pedro Astacio's agents about a 1 year deal, but word on the street after the meetings was that the two sides were far apart on dollar figures. It seems to have fallen under the radar, but the deal was agreed to on Monday and Astacio passed his physical on Wednesday, officially making him a member of the Nats for 2006.
Soriano trade still being entertained?
Last month, faint whispers about a possible trade of Alfonso Soriano were heard, some coming from pretty respectable sources such as the Washington Post's Barry Svrluga. The issue of Soriano and Vidro has not gone away, but I'm a little surprised that we haven't heard any more recent scoops about a trade of either of the second basemen.

Both Jose Vidro and Alfonso Soriano had their mugs in the press this week, re-igniting plenty of speculation about how these two second basemen will be used on the field by the Nationals in 2006.
Bowden still trying to hook Sosa
Despite the recent comment posted on MLB.com, "Bowden was not willing to increase the offer", the Nationals reportedly doubled the cash in their offer to Sammy Sosa, bringing the deal to $1 million, non-guaranteed.
